Albuquerque Professional Development & School Support Project Goals and Analysis: In 1998, as part of school redesign efforts aimed at higher student performance, the Albuquerque Public Schools Superintendent and leadership team enlisted the help of ERS to analyze district spending and identify resources that could be redirected toward more intensive support and coaching at each school. Outcomes: ERS’s analysis resulted in a 50% increase in professional development spending and the reallocation of millions of dollars to the lowest performing schools for highly prescriptive professional development led by the district's strongest leaders. Project Goals and Analysis ERS worked with district leaders on school redesign, formulating goals for school level instruction, organization, support and accountability. The work resulted in a set of “Instructional and Structural Essentials” for each school level. Outcomes The “Essentials” were critical to improved instruction and student achievement throughout the system. The student performance results have been astounding. In 2002, Albuquerque Public Schools was listed as a one of the nation’s most improved urban school districts in the annual publication of Beat the Odds.
